Liligirl asked: I moved into a house that was a vacation rental for many years and the lawn had been sodded years ago. It’s pretty bare in some places, with the sod meshing exposed. It has been buried under season after season of shedding pine needles, cones, and it looks really tangled and thatchy. I live in snow country and winter is around the corner.
My question is: Is there anything I can do to overwinter my lawn that will give me a head start on getting it back into shape in the Spring?

scarify it with a lawn rake that will get rid of the moss and dead grass then apply a autum feed as per instructions on box then leave it over winter hope this helps
I agree a good fall weed and feed should help. Then next year you might just add grass seeds to where you see it needs it!!
As well as scarifying etc I would look at the PH of the soil because of the continual pine needle drop. If the soil has become too acid this could be contributing to the dead patches. If soil has become too acid get some advice on lowering it eg the addition of lime.
