Where to vacation on the US east coast? (cozy cape cod style vacation?

Charleston, South Carolina is an absolutely beautiful place to vacation. If I were you I would definantly consider Charleston.
Do a search of the Bar Harbor, Maine area. It has what you are describing without too much development. Cape Cod also has it but is very developed. You can do search here. If you are feeling adventurous, take a windjammer cruise.
